About Chestnut Lane
You may go into an antique store and pick up a beautiful piece of Rose Medallion. You have no idea if it is old, nice or a copy? You wonder if the price is fair, due to your lack of knowledge about the piece? At Chestnut Lane if I am not familiar with a piece, I will research any and everything that is not in my comfort zone. I never pretend to know something I don't. I can't begin to price anything I am not familiar with. Not a day goes by that I don't learn something new. There is just so much to know on so many levels. Let me do the work for you. I will stand behind everything I sell.
I am Shelley Blackwell and I own and operate Chestnut Lane. I LOVE what I do! I hope you see that in my website and store. There are few things I enjoy more than creating a room with a mix of antiques, color and fabrics. Take me into a new furniture store and my interest quickly fades. Take me antique and fabric shopping and I almost start to shake with excitement!
Colors, antiques, flowers and literature are a primal part of the way I make many of my creative decisions. This thought process was instilled in me from a very early age. My mother was very creative, and those that knew her say we were cut from the same cloth!! I have always been hungry for more knowledge, ideas and beautiful pieces. There are not many styles I dislike, but I do dislike poorly done styles. There is nothing more beautiful than fine craftsmanship and lines in any style. Often mixing those beautiful pieces and styles can take a room to the next level.
Customers love my store because it offers great service and a very unique style unlike most antique stores. Yes, antiques are my first passion, but fabrics and color are definitely part of my personality and this is very evident throughout Chestnut Lane. "Great big LIKE from The Robin's Nest!!! Love the table in the cover pic!" and that is in reference to a beautiful farm table we had on Facebook. Kathryn St Peter gave us 5 Stars and wrote "Great pieces and awesome job painting/reupholstering! Love this shop! Wonderful Downtown Danville asset!"
I have officially been in the antique business since 2004. I opened Chestnut Lane in March of 2011. Chestnut Lane has grown by leaps and bounds this past year. Actually, I feel as if I've been in business much longer. Helping family and friends with their homes and projects.
I have resided in Danville most of my life except for College at VCU in Richmond, Va.. I married my high school sweetheart and we have been very happily married for 32 years in November. Three children, two dogs, two cats and six chickens have been keeping me very busy in addition to Chestnut Lane.
To help deal with my hectic schedule I have been so fortunate to find smart and energetic young ladies, Robin Turner, Kelly Fey, Kaitlin Altice, and Anne-Meadors Wall. Unfortunately, I can't be two places at once, buying furniture for the store and costumers. If I can't be reached, one of these ladies will be at the store to answer any and all questions. Call us at 434-799-8500 or e-mail at info@chestnutlaneantiques.com.
The online store was completed the end of 2014 and we are available to ship around the world to all our costumers. I want to give access a unique store to those that do not live close by! Our brick and mortar store is located at 531 Main Street in Downtown Danville, Virginia.
I Love to hear from customers! Please send me an email if you have any questions or what you think of the store or website.
